Our Story
Thirty years of tide and tradition.
Chapter 01
How it began
When the Net Ban occurred in the early 90s, it left many people without a way to provide for their families. That is when clam farming was introduced to Cedar Key.
Our owner, Dan Solano, saw this as an optimistic opportunity to create a legacy that could be passed down for generations to come. Thirty years later, that vision has proven itself to be a worthwhile family-run business.
Chapter 02
What sets us apart
Here at CKAF, we are a family business and value all our employees the same way. Not only do we treat our employees with the utmost respect, but we also value and respect every one of our customers.
We care deeply for the waters in which our crops grow and do our best to treat God's earth with the respect it deserves.
Chapter 03
A day in the life
A day at Cedar Key Aquaculture Farms begins bright and early on the water. It can take two or more hours for our water crew to hand-pull our planted bags of clams from the floor of the Gulf.
After the boat ride in, the clams are dumped into baskets, then into our tumblers where they are cleaned and pass their first inspection. From there they move into wet storage, then to the grader where they are sized for sale, then bagged, weighed, boxed, and loaded into our delivery trucks — all by the same hands that planted them.
